No manual MBR/QBR reporting

Progress Digital Experience (DX) needed a faster, cleaner way to run sales performance reviews – with the right metrics, the right context and the right level of trust in one place.

For the DX Sales and Finance teams, monthly and quarterly business reviews depended on data scattered across multiple Tableau reports. To prepare the final view, people had to open different dashboards, switch between many filters, copy numbers into a PowerPoint deck and repeat the process across a large set of KPIs.

B EYE helped Progress replace that manual reporting flow with a unified Power BI solution built on a leading cloud-based data platform – bringing more than 200 metrics into a fast, professional reporting experience with 150+ calculations per page that now respond in under a second.

A Complex Sales Reporting Process, Built Around Manual Work

Progress DX is not a simple reporting environment. The business unit includes multiple product lines, each with its own commercial logic, reporting specifics and stakeholder needs. That complexity showed up most clearly during MBR and QBR preparation.

Our business is complex. In DX we have five separate product lines, and every product line has its specifics,” says Veliko Borisov, Principal BI Analyst Team Lead at Progress. “The painful thing was around MBRs and QBRs. People had to go into one report, copy the data, put it in a PowerPoint presentation, go to another report, switch between 10 or 20 filters. It was a purely manual process.

The existing reporting landscape made it difficult to produce a single, executive-ready view of business performance. Sales leadership, sales managers and Finance needed to understand how DX was tracking against monthly and quarterly targets, how performance compared to previous periods, and where attention was needed.

But that view was not readily available. Someone had to assemble it.

In practice, that meant:

  • Fragmented reporting: The data lived across multiple Tableau dashboards and reporting sources.
  • Heavy manual preparation: Teams copied KPI values into a PowerPoint deck with more than 90 pages.
  • Too much filter switching: Users had to move between reports and combinations of filters to pull the right numbers.
  • Limited time for analysis: More effort went into preparing the review pack than interpreting what the numbers meant.

If you wanted to have that single point of view, someone had to spend several days of manual work to provide it,” Veliko explains. “Now, we connect all those different sources into one unified solution.

Why Progress® Chose B EYE

This was not the first time Progress had worked with B EYE. We had previously supported Progress on sales operations reporting needs, including Salesforce reporting, account hierarchies and contact cleanup. That earlier experience created trust in both the technical quality and the communication style of our team.

For the DX Sales reporting project, Progress needed someone who could do more than translate a design into visuals. The work required strong Power BI expertise, a performance-minded data model and the ability to turn complex business rules into a usable reporting experience.

Veliko played the Progress-side SME role, connecting business stakeholders, end users and technical delivery. From B EYE, Dian Gospodinov brought the Power BI architecture and implementation expertise.

That role is very important for a person who comes from the outside – to connect the dots and create the logic and the reporting that we need,” says Veliko. “Dian has a lot of Power BI experience, he understands the tool in detail, and communication was super easy.

The Solution: One DX Sales Reporting Experience in Power BI

B EYE built a unified DX Sales Power BI report that consolidated seven data sources from the existing reporting landscape into one solution. Instead of forcing users to collect metrics manually across several reports, the new dashboard gives Sales and Finance a single place to review the core DX Sales performance picture.

The solution was designed around the way the business actually runs its reviews:

  • A single Power BI experience for DX Sales performance reporting.
  • More than 200 metrics across main KPIs and comparison views.
  • More than 150 calculations per page loading in under 1 second.
  • Pages organized around 12 core KPIs with comparisons against target, previous year and year-to-date views.
  • Interactive filters and applied filter visibility so users can see exactly what view they are analyzing.
  • Trend lines and target-based color indicators to make performance patterns easier to understand at a glance.
  • Power BI and PowerPoint integration so the same reporting experience can support business review presentations directly.
  • Daily refresh from the cloud-based data platform so the dashboard stays aligned with the latest available data.

The result is a reporting experience that supports the review process instead of creating more preparation work around it.

B EYE Revenue Performance dashboard screenshot organized in three sections: Revenue KPIs showing total revenue of 48.6 million dollars, recurring revenue of 34.2 million dollars, expansion revenue of 9.8 million dollars, and forecast revenue of 52.8 million dollars; Customer KPIs showing retention rate of 92.4 percent, churn rate of 5.8 percent, customer growth of 6.9 percent, and renewal rate of 88.1 percent; and Product KPIs showing product adoption of 74.3 percent, usage growth of 22.6 percent, cross-sell rate of 31.5 percent, and upsell revenue of 7.4 million dollars.

Built for Performance, Not Just Presentation

The project was also technically demanding. The dashboard needed to handle a large number of metrics, comparisons, filters and calculations without becoming slow or heavy. B EYE addressed this from the data model up, not just at the visual layer.

Early in the project, B EYE recommended moving away from a large flat-table approach and instead building the Power BI semantic model around a star schema. This made the model cleaner, faster and more scalable. Where possible, data transformations, flags and pre-aggregations were pushed into the cloud-based data platform, so Power BI could work with simpler calculations and only the data it needed.

That architecture mattered. The final solution handles roughly 4 million rows, yet the Power BI semantic model is only around 39-40 MB. It was also tested with additional historical data and continued to perform well, giving Progress a reporting foundation built for future growth.

Most importantly, the user experience is fast. Even with more than 200 metrics and more than 150 calculations on a page, the report responds in under a second when filters change.

Currently, the reports respond almost instantaneously,” says Veliko. “That was a result of the work B EYE did on the back end and the architecture of the report. It is a combination of B EYE skills, best practices applied, the data structure and business knowledge around our processes.

What Changed for Progress®

For Progress, the biggest change is not simply that a new dashboard exists. It is that the DX Sales reporting process is now cleaner, faster and easier to use in the moments where leadership needs clarity.

1. One Place to Understand DX Sales Performance

Sales leadership, sales managers and Finance can now review performance against targets, monthly and quarterly views, and prior-period comparisons in one reporting experience. The business no longer has to assemble a single view manually from scattered reports.

2. Less Manual MBR/QBR Preparation

The reporting pack no longer depends on copying values from several dashboards into a 90+ page PowerPoint deck. With Power BI and PowerPoint integration, Progress can bring live, consistent reporting into the review flow more naturally.

3. Reporting Performance in Under One Second

The report responds in under a second despite handling more than 200 metrics and more than 150 calculations per page. That speed matters because users can explore the data during preparation or review without waiting for separate reports to load.

4. More Confidence in the Numbers

By consolidating sources and applying business logic in a structured model, Progress has a more consistent basis for sales performance reporting. Users spend less time reconciling views and more time understanding what the numbers mean.

5. A More Professional Executive Reporting Experience

Design was not an afterthought. The dashboard was built to be fast, clear and visually polished enough for leadership-facing business reviews.

For me, it is very important that a dashboard looks professional and well designed,” says Veliko. “Dian is a great professional in terms of Power BI knowledge, but he also had an eye for details and design.

A Strong Working Model Between Progress® and B EYE

The collaboration was smooth and efficient. Veliko and the Progress team brought the business knowledge: product-line specifics, stakeholder expectations and the rules behind each metric, while B EYE brought the Power BI expertise, performance best practices and implementation discipline required to turn those requirements into a scalable solution.

This mattered especially when requirements were incomplete or metric logic needed clarification. B EYE worked through the business rules, tested the measures and adjusted the model to reflect Progress reality rather than forcing the business into a generic reporting template.

The communication was super easy,” says Veliko. “I am sure the main reason for that is Dian’s experience technically, but also his experience working with other people on other projects and consulting other companies. His communication and very high level of technical skills are the main things I would highlight.

Veliko also connects this experience to the broader relationship with B EYE.

We have worked with B EYE colleagues before, and I have the same impression: great professionals with a very good level of technical skills, together with good soft skills and easy communication. That makes the work effortless on our end.

What This Means for Other Sales and BI Leaders

Many organizations accept manual business review preparation as part of the job. The reports are in different places. The KPIs are known, but scattered. The presentation gets built every month or quarter through copying, checking and rechecking. It works – but it consumes time and increases the risk of inconsistency.

Progress DX shows another path: modernize the reporting experience around the business review itself. Bring the right KPIs into one governed model. Make the dashboard fast enough to support live exploration. Connect it to the presentation flow. And build the technical foundation properly so the solution can grow instead of slowing down over time.

That is the difference between building another dashboard and modernizing the reporting process.
